Westminster Man Wanted for Murder Arrested in Gainesville, GA

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man wanted on murder charges in a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian that occurred Monday afternoon in southern Oconee County has been arrested and taken into custody today in Gainesville, GA.

 

43 year old William Barney Drummond was arrested today by the Gainesville Police Department and has been transported to the Hall County Jail, where the extradition process will commence.  Drummond was taken into custody without incident, according to Gainesville PD.

 

A firearm was discovered on Drummond’s person during his arrest, according to Gainesville PD. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office were notified of his arrest during the lunch hour today.  According to investigators, Drummond had changed his appearance.

 

Drummond was charged by the Sheriff’s Office this week with the death of 34 year old Devon James Turner.  According to an arrest warrant, Drummond was operating a black 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 dually when he struck Turner on S. Highway 11 near E. Spearman Road, which is near the South Union Community, on Monday. 

 

The E-911 Communications Center received a call at around 3:55pm Monday in regards to the accident.

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  Due to the ongoing investigation, and to prevent the premature release of information that could interfere with a prospective law enforcement proceeding, the Sheriff’s Office will not release any further information on the investigation at this time.
