(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man remains in jail today after his arrest last Friday on multiple charges, which include two counts of drug trafficking.

A judge set a combined $155,000 surety bond against 42 year old David Wayne Howard, of Brock Road, on one count each of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Trafficking in Fentanyl, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Failure to Stop for a Blue Light.  Howard was also charged with two counts each of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.  Howard was also cited for Driving under Suspension.

Last Friday morning, a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau, on routine patrol in the area of Sandifer Boulevard and Hitec Road, observed a man driving a red Jeep Grand Cherokee with an expired temporary tag.  The driver also committed a traffic violation for crossing the center line and the fog line on the road.

After meeting with other Deputies and conducting a check for the Jeep, it was eventually discovered overturned and down an embankment.  Fire Department crews and paramedics were called to the scene.  The driver, identified as Howard, was located nearby.

Upon further investigation, Deputies located a .357 Magnum and a quantity of narcotics inside of the vehicle as well as additional quantities of narcotics near where Howard was located and on his person.  As the vehicle was being towed from the scene, additional quantities of narcotics and a 9mm firearm were also discovered by Deputies.

Narcotics Agents from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office were also notified as well and responded to the scene.

Howard was transported to the hospital for further treatment and was released and transported to jail, where he was booked in at around 3:54pm last Friday.

The total amount of Methamphetamine seized during the arrest was approximately 131.5 grams, while the total amount of Fentanyl that was seized was approximately 13.02 grams.
