Westminster Man Booked into Jail on Murder Charge

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Westminster man, who was charged by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office with Murder earlier this year in a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on Wednesday.
43 year old William Barney Drummond, of Mt. Pleasant Road, was booked into jail at around 2:53pm yesterday. Drummond was transported from the Hall County (GA) Jail to Oconee County on Wednesday.
Besides being served with an arrest warrant on a charge of Murder, Drummond was also served an outstanding arrest warrant on a charge of Operating a Nonregistered Vehicle. At this time, Drummond remains in jail as bond was denied on both charges. Drummond will appear before a Circuit Court Judge, at a later time, regarding his bond.
The Sheriff’s Office charged Drummond with Murder in the death of 34 year old Devon James Turner, which occurred on Monday, February 10th of this year. According to the arrest warrant, Drummond was operating a black 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 dually when he struck Turner on S. Highway 11 near E. Spearman Road, which is near the South Union Community.
In a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, February 13th, Drummond was arrested and taken into custody in Gainesville, GA by the Gainesville Police Department. Drummond was booked into jail in Hall County on local charges.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
