Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Releases Additional Information on Tuesday Evening Pursuit

Cheyenne Nicole Collier

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is releasing some additional information today regarding a Tuesday evening pursuit.

At around 6:10pm last night, a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division, on routine patrol on W. Bennett Road near Westminster, observed a dark blue Scion with a Georgia tag that had a license plate cover over the tag.  Based upon the traffic violation, as well as the Deputy having evidence to believe that the vehicle had left the scene of a shoplifting that occurred at a business in the city of Westminster Monday afternoon, the Deputy initiated a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle pulled over on W. Bennett Road.  The Deputy spoke to and identified the female driver as 23 year old Cheyenne Nicole Collier of West Union.  A check with dispatch revealed that the license of the driver was suspended and that she had a General Sessions Bench Warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine and a Magistrate Bench Warrant from the city of Walhalla.

While attempting to place her under arrest, Collier placed her vehicle in drive and drove off, almost dragging the Deputy with the vehicle.  The Deputy returned to his vehicle and informed Dispatch that he was in pursuit of the vehicle.  The Deputy did activate his Digital Siren device inside of his vehicle.

The Deputy followed Collier from W. Bennett Road to Plant Road to Mountain Road and then onto S. Highway 11.  Heading southbound, Collier entered I-85 southbound from Highway 11 and proceeded to cross into the state of Georgia.

Collier then exited off I-85 southbound at exit 173, which is Georgia Highway 17.  The pursuit ended on Arlington Drive in Lavonia.  Collier ran from the vehicle but was taken into custody without incident.

Custody of Collier, and her vehicle, was transferred to the Georgia State Patrol.  A hold has been placed on Collier by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
