Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Coordinator Named Seneca American Legion Officer of the Year

(Walhalla, SC)——————On Monday night of this week, Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Coordinator Sergeant Alan Sayre was named the 2025 American Legion  Post #120 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year at the annual Joseph Earl “Jake” Robinson Law Enforcement Dinner which was held at the Charles McGee Byrd American Legion Post 120 in Seneca.


The annual dinner is held to salute law enforcement agencies and has been held annually since 1977. Officers from several law enforcement agencies, esteemed guests and members of the Seneca American Legion Post 120 attended the dinner.

The guest speaker Monday night was Associate South Carolina Supreme Court Justice, and Seneca native, Letitia Hamilton Verdin.  Justice Verdin was introduced by Oconee State Senator Thomas Alexander.


Sergeant Sayre was hired by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on March 17th, 2014.  Sergeant Sayre was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau and held the rank of First Sergeant as a Supervisor on the Bravo Shift.  Sergeant Sayre was named Community Outreach Coordinator in 2024.  Sergeant Sayre is a graduate of Sumter High School and attended Francis Marion University.  Before his employment at the Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Sayre worked as a Police Officer for the Francis Marion University Police Department and the Seneca Police Department.


Along with his duties as Community Outreach Coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Sayre is a Drone Pilot with the Sheriff’s Office, serves on the SWAT team, is a Certified Instructor in Radar, Standard Field Sobriety Tests and for Emergency Vehicle Operations.  Sergeant Sayre is a certified Dispatcher and a former Volunteer Firefighter.
