Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Woman on Breach of Trust Charge

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca woman is out of jail, on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, after her arrest this morning on a charge of Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent.
41 year old Alicia Anais Smith, of Woodfarm Lane, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 8:00am today.
The Sheriff’s Office investigation began on December 16th of last year when an Investigator assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau met with members of the Administration of Oconee County Government in regards to a County employee, identified as Smith, who had committed Breach of Trust by utilizing a County issued credit card to make personal purchases from May of 2023 until September of 2024.
According to information obtained during the investigation, Smith was assigned the credit card as part of her duties as Senior Administrative Assistant for Oconee Economic Alliance in order to make purchases of business related items.
Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, Smith used the credit card to make unauthorized personal purchases, which included gas, food, clothing and miscellaneous personal and household items, which totaled over $10,000.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
