(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail today, on a $75,000 surety bond, after his arrest yesterday on an outstanding warrant on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine.

41 year old Michael Stephen Burns, of Morninglory Drive, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:33pm Monday.  Burns was booked into jail by a Deputy from the Warrants Unit of the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation on January 16th of this year after a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to a business address on E. Fairplay Boulevard, in Fair Play, in reference to an employee of a business finding a quantity of narcotics on the business property.

The narcotics were contained in a plastic bag in a lime green drink holder.  As the investigation continued, Deputies learned that a man, later identified as Burns, had placed the drink holder next to the door of the business before walking inside the business.

At a later time, Burns walked out of the store, left the drink holder next to the front door and walked away from the business.  At the time that Burns left the property, the South Carolina Highway Patrol was on scene working a traffic accident in the business’ parking lot.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained against Burns on the charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine.  According to the arrest warrant, the amount of narcotics seized was approximately 18.10 grams.

The arrest warrant also states that Burns has prior convictions for drug offenses.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
