Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Drug Trafficking Charge

Robert Mitchell Epperson

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail today after his arrest late last week on multiple charges, including a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine.

27 year old Robert Mitchell Epperson, of Oak Haven Court, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 5:54pm last Friday, December 6th.  Epperson was also charged with one count each of Failure to Stop for a Blue Light, Reckless Driving, Failure to Stop for a Stopped School Bus, Driving under Suspension, Improper Tag and Resisting Arrest.

Last Friday afternoon, an Investigator from the Criminal Investigations Bureau observed a driver of a motorcycle pass another vehicle on a double yellow line on Poplar Springs Road.  The Investigator activated his blue lights and sirens in an attempt to catch up to the motorcycle.

While traveling on Poplar Springs Road near Bear Swamp Road, the Investigators observed the driver of the motorcycle pass a school bus that was stopped in the road to drop off students.  The Investigator slowed down and lost sight of the motorcycle.  The Investigator made his way down to Old Walhalla Highway and Jenkins Road, where he received some information that indicated the motorcyclists was nearby.

The Deputy arrived at a location on Brownwood Drive and observed the motorcycle at the back of a residence.  After receiving permission from the homeowner to search the home, the Investigator, along with other Deputies, located the motorcyclist in a closet in the residence.

The motorcyclist was identified as Epperson.  Epperson was taken into custody and transported to jail.  The bike was towed away from the property.  A search of a jacket that Epperson was wearing yielded approximately 14.61 grams of Methamphetamine.

Epperson received a combined $14,942.50 surety bond on the traffic charges.  Bond has yet to be set on the drug trafficking charge.  Epperson will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released from jail.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
