Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor Charge

(Walhalla, SC)---------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail today, on a $100,000 surety bond, after his arrest last Friday afternoon on a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor – Second Degree.

 

67 year old Lawrence Raymond Belcher, of Keowee School Road, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 3:27pm on Friday, January 17th.  Belcher will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, as a condition of bond, should he be released from jail.

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the West Union Police Department conducted a joint investigation in regards to a report of a sexual assault of a minor.  Based upon evidence that was obtained during the investigation, it was determined that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, it was determined that Belcher had inappropriately touched the victim, who is a child, on January 12th of this year.  The incident involved only one victim.  An arrest warrant was obtained charging Belcher with the Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor charge. 

 

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  Due to the nature of the charges, and in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation and that of the victim, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not release any information that could, either directly or indirectly, identify the victim in this investigation.
