Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Seneca Man on Burglary and Narcotics Charges

Stacy Shanon Lay

(Walhalla, SC)---------------------------------A Seneca man remains in jail today, on a combined $100,000 surety bond, after his arrest over the weekend on burglary and narcotics charges.

54 year old Stacy Shanon Lay, of Goodard Avenue, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 1:25am Sunday.  Arrest warrants were obtained against Lay on charges of First Degree Burglary, Possession of Methamphetamine and Petit Larceny.

On Saturday evening, January 11th, a Deputy from the Uniform Patrol Bureau responded to an address on James Street, which is located on the Utica Mill Hill near Seneca, in regards to a reported burglary.  After arriving on scene, the Deputy spoke with the property owner and began an investigation.

The Deputy was informed that one of the property owners discovered a man inside of the residence.  The property owner told the Deputy that no one was supposed to be at the residence.  After telling the man that she was calling law enforcement, the man left the residence and took with him a pan that he used to cook food on a stove inside of the residence.

Deputies were able to positively identify the man inside of the residence as Stacy Shanon Lay based upon evidence collected.  Deputies located Lay early Sunday morning walking on Powell Street near Hope Avenue in Utica.  A search of Lay’s person produced approximately 0.6 grams of Methamphetamine.

Lay was placed under arrest and transported to jail.  According to the arrest warrants, Lay broke into the dwelling without consent, and with the intent to commit a crime, during the nighttime hours.  Also, the frying pan that Lay used to cook food and carry away from the residence belonged to the property owners.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
