Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Belton Man on Outstanding First Degree Burglary Charge

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------A Belton, SC man was arrested last Friday, by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, on outstanding arrest warrants pertaining to an incident that occurred in March of 2023.


54 year old Leonard Jonas Burdette was taken into custody by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.  Custody of Burdette was then transferred to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.  Burdette was then transported to the Oconee County Detention Center and booked into jail at around 9:26pm on Friday, March 15th. 


The charges filed against Burdette were the result of a call for service in regards to a report of an assault that occurred on the evening of March 3rd, 2023 at the Days Inn location near Seneca.    


Based on evidence that was gathered during the investigation, it was determined that Burdette had entered a motel room without consent, at nighttime, and attempted to assault the victim by attempting to kick and punch him, according to the arrest warrants. 

Due to the nature of the crime, the Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing the name of the victim.
