Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Oconee County Emergency Services Reports Missing Hikers Located

(Walhalla, SC)-------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Oconee County Emergency Services is reporting that two missing hikers have been located this afternoon.
77 year old Carrell Wayne Fowler and 68 year old Sharon Kay Bramlett were located today, at around 12:30pm, north of the Licklog Falls Camping area near the Georges and the South Carolina/Georgia state line.
Efforts are currently being made to extricate Carrell and Sharon from their location. Carrell and Sharon were located by a Sheriff’s Office drone and confirmation on their location was made by personnel from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Other than some non-life threatening injuries to Carrell, both hikers appear to be in good health. Both will be transported for further treatment and evaluation.
One Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy suffered a non-life threatening injury in a fall searching for Carrell and Sharon and efforts are being made to extract the Deputy for further medical treatment and evaluation.
In a Sheriff’s Office news release issued yesterday evening, the E-911 Communications Center received a call from a family member of Carrell and Sharon. Carrell and Sharon had gone hiking at Licklog Falls, which is in the northern part of Oconee County near the Rabun County (GA) line.
Carrell and Sharon had gone hiking around Noon on Friday afternoon. When they did not return, family searched the area but could not locate them. The vehicle that Carrell and Sharon drove was found in the Licklog Falls parking area.
Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office assisted Oconee County Emergency Services personnel in the search for Carrell and Sharon by flying drones in the area both yesterday and today.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Oconee County Emergency Services would like to thank Foothills Search and Rescue, Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad, K-9 Justice, Longcreek Fire Department, Mountain Rest Fire Department, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, the South Carolina Helicopter Aquatic Rescue team, the South Carolina National Guard, the United States Forest Service as well as other individuals and search groups who participated in the successful search for Carrell and Sharon.
